Every year we send out or give greeting cards. Birthdays, weddings, graduations, baby showers, retirements, thank yous, congratulations, baptisms, holidays...there are always cards to send.
What do you do with greeting cards after you read them? Do you save them? Do you glance at them quickly and then throw them away?
Most of us do not keep greeting cards. They end up in the landfill. The only cards I do keep are special cards from holidays from the hubby and greeting cards from the first holidays for my daughter. I do still have a card or two from loved ones that have passed...and those are very dear to me. I do keep one or two special ones from family members just to have. Other than that, greeting cards can become clutter.
Greeting cards are very pricey. Some people drop a good $3.00-$4.00, sometimes even $5.00 if it sings, on greeting cards. The fancier and the bigger, the more you pay. You can however, find the new 44 cent or 99 cent cards these days, but you do get what you pay for. They still most likely end up in the trash.
Why not save money on greeting cards and buy blank cards in bulk? A few cute stickers or embellishments here and there and you have the perfect little card for any occasion. If you are into scrapbooking, this works out even better for you. You have all of the materials you need to put a pretty design on your cards. Cute embellishments, ribbon, raised stickers, stamps...if you have it, why not make your own cards? And, isn't it more special to receive a homemade card, than a card bought from the store with a message that someone else came up with?

Making your own cards will save you a lot of money. You can find boxes of blank cards at Wal-mart, Target, Michaels, and other craft stores. I bought my box for about $10.00 for 200 blank pastel cards. Keep in mind that sometimes buying 3 cards can cost $10.00! This box has already lasted me quite a while and has already "paid for itself." I usually put a cute sticker on the card (which are inexpensive), write my message, and send it off. You can get very creative with these, but here is an example of a very basic thank you card you can make.
