Tithing: Test Me in This By Douglas LeBlanc

Journalist Douglas LeBlanc travels the nation to talk with believers whose lives have been enriched by the ancient spiritual discipline of tithing. He discovers people along the way who do not understand the practice as an onerous law but as God’s call to a life of generosity and compassion. The effect on their lives is dramatic.

My Review:

I chose to review the book, Tithing: Test Me in This, because tithing is a very important part of my own life, and I wanted to read more on the subject. In a material world that we live in today, the subject of tithing seems to be kept quiet and on a very personal level. It isn't discussed as often as it should be. I liked this book because it reveals stories from people of different walks of life that choose to tithe and enjoy doing so. They discuss their practice of tithing and how tithing has impacted their lives, in a positive way.

One reports, "Even at the beginning, we could see that tithing did not make us impoverished, in fact, somehow we ended up having more money. We would get unexpected refunds, bonuses, or things we were never looking for." Another reports, "We are entirely Christ's, every part of our being is committed to Christ, which means all of our money is His, all of our resources and property and time are His." We need to be asking, 'How does God want me to use my time and my skills and my money?'

It is clear that the author is passionate on the subject of tithing. He shows this through the use of personal interviews with others that practice tithing and benefit from using Gods resources wisely, whether that be through the use of tithing to the church, to charity, or to those in need. I would recommend reading this book if you would like to read how tithing has helped others in life. I think it opens minds on the subject of tithing and motivates one to try it, "Test me in this."

Luke 6:38 Jesus says, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap."
