How to Create a Small Stockpile

As a mother of a small toddler, I found that it wasn't easy to get to the grocery store each week. I found that I didn't have too much time to make lists on what I needed. I also found that I was buying the same things each week because we ran out of the item too fast. I wasn't a fan of standing in the Wal-mart line with a huge cart of baby stuff, non-perishables, and toiletries. I would leave realizing I didn't even buy much food because all of the other stuff took up so much room (and also had a frustrated baby in tow!)

Then I ran across another frugal blogger's blog. She had posted pictures of what she called a "stockpile." I thought the idea was a little crazy myself, and inquired a little further. I started asking questions about it. When someone told me what it was and that she was getting all of the items for free or almost free, I inquired even further. I watched videos on Youtube on "stockpiling." This is also the time when I decided that I wanted to use coupons, too, to get items that we needed for next to nothing!

It has taken me a little over a month to create a small stockpile. The best part? When I go to the grocery store, I find that all I have to buy are: fresh produce, milk, bread, meats, frozen foods, and other cold stuff. There are rarely any non-perishables, unless I find them on sale and have coupons to get them really cheap. My shopping time is cut in half and shopping is way less frustrating.

What is a stockpile? A stockpile is a large quantity of items that are stored for future usage.

Take a look at this list. These are things that I do not have to buy for at least two-three months or more.

1. Toilet Paper
2. Cleaning Products
3. Diapers and Wipes, Baby Wash
(I am actually running low on diapers.
When I go to the store soon, I plan to buy
several packages.)
4. Feminine Products
5. Deodorant
6. Toothpaste
7. Razors
8. Soap
9. Cat food/cat litter
10. Coffee
11. Peanut Butter and Jelly
12. Syrup
13. Mustard, Ketchup, Mayo
14. Cereal/Granola Bars
15. Snacks for daughter
16. Spaghetti/Spaghetti Sauce
17. Pancake Mix

When you find something on sale at a much lower price than you usually pay for, buy more than one. Buy 6 or more! I suggest taking a month or so to create your small stockpile. This just means that you are going to the store more throughout the month. You are buying all of the items above when they are on sale and hopefully with coupons. Some people are limited on space. See if there are areas in your house that you could tuck a few items away. If you have a cabinet that you consider full of stuff you never use, donate it for space for your stockpile.

It is a joke in my house now that my wonderful hubby will say "Hey--I think we are running out of toilet paper!" when we have several packages. I don't mind though. I am the one that does the majority of grocery shopping. Every week I found I was picking up more toilet paper! Not anymore, thanks to my stockpile. I found a new way of shopping, and I love it. In my opinion, stockpiling is extremely helpful for mothers. It's not easy loading up the kids and running to the grocery store all of the time! I had company come recently and I enjoyed that I didn't have to go re-stock just for their visit. I had everything for them!

Keys to stockpiling:
1. Wait to buy toiletry and non-perishable items when they are sale.
2. Use coupons with the sale.
3. Instead of buying 1 item that you know you will buy again, buy several to last you a few months. They are on sale! You will be saving money in the end. When you find you are running out, these items will probably be on sale again! Sales always run in cycles.
4. Make sure you have plenty of room to store your stockpile.
5. Enjoy the benefits of not having to run to the store as often!

Happy Stockpiling!

Practice Writing to Companies for FREE Coupons!

Do you write to your favorite companies online, telling them how much you like their products and asking them if they could send money saving coupons? I have been doing this for a few weeks and it is really fun! I have received 11 personal typed letters from companies, all sending me money saving coupons and some of the coupons were for FREE products. The life on the coupons sent are usually long, meaning they don't expire for a while.

Today we are going to practice writing to two companies. One is McCormick and the other is to SoBe. I haven't tried writing to either of these companies so it is not guaranteed that you will receive anything. You can always go to my labels on the left side of the page and click on "write to companies" to see more of my posts on this subject.

Head here if you would like to try writing to McCormick. I am going to tell them how much I like their taco seasoning and ask if they could send coupons for that product or other products.

Head here to write to Sobe. I am going to let them know that I love their SoBe Lifewater products and kindly ask for coupons to use towards future purchases.

Be sure to come back to let me know if you had any success. Sometimes the company will simply email you saying they do not have coupons available and to look for them in Sunday inserts or online. Do not get discouraged. There are hundreds more products to request coupons for!

This Is The Time To Stock Up!

The 4th of July is this Sunday. Stores are always running the BEST deals during this time. Now would be the time to stock up on foods like mustard, ketchup, mayo, cheese, meats, chips, and on items like paper plates and plastic cups. Why? They are usually very cheap before holidays and even cheaper when paired with a coupon.

I have already taken a look at the Food Lion circular for the week of 6/30-7/06. I can already see they are running great sales and I have coupons to match, bringing the price down even further. One sale is on the Lean Cuisine Frozen Dinners. The price is $1.99/1 on sale. I just printed (and make sure you print before they reset!) my coupons off from coupon.com. One coupon is for $1.00 off any two Lean Cuisine dinners. If you buy two, you will pay about $4.00, but after using the coupon, you will pay $3.00, getting them for $1.50 a piece. If you take these to work with you, these are cheap meals! Coupons.com usually lets you print off two coupons each, so if you buy these regularly, buy 4 and use both coupons!

Save on Groceries at Coupons.com! Click Here

They also have a sale on Rotel Diced Tomatoes and Green Chiles. We like to use these when we make salsa. The sale is 10/$10. You don't have to buy 10. You can get 1 can and pay only $1.00. The current coupon on coupons.com is is save $1.00/3 cans. Instead of paying $3.00 for 3 cans, you will only pay $2.00 for 3 cans, getting them for $0.66 a can.

Money Saving Tip:
1. Take the circulars from the stores you shop with.
2. Look to see what is on sale.
3. Look through your coupons to see if you have any that match the sale.
4. Look on coupons.com or Redplum.com to see if there are any coupons that match.
5. Make your list for what you will buy or stock up on.
6. Go shopping and watch how much you save!
7. Save your other coupons that expire at a later date and use them with future sales.

End of the Month = Print Your Coupons Before They Reset!

It is the end of the month!!! Make you print your coupons before they reset! I like printing mine from Coupons.com and Redplum! It only takes a few minutes to click and print what you need. Clean out your old expired coupons from your file or binder and save room for the new ones that are about to come out in July! If you like to print coupons, I recommend using refill ink. I have used refill ink ever since I bought my printer years ago. It is cheap and lasts a while!
